Face to face and online psychological assessment and therapy for children and young people
Psychological assessment
I will always start our work together by completing a thorough assessment. I believe a good psychological assessment is key to understanding what is going on for a child or young person and what might help. Sometimes a one-off assessment that helps a family understand and make sense of the difficulties being experienced can be beneficial in itself.

I use a range of methods (e.g. interviews, child and parent questionnaires) to gather information so that together we can create a shared understanding (known as a ‘formulation’) of the difficulties they are facing and what things may help.

We will usually complete the assessment in one 90 minute session. However, sometimes, this may take several sessions, particularly if there are multiple issues to discuss and explore. At the end of the assessment, we will agree a plan and a way forward. Further appointments can be arranged at this time, should we agree psychological therapy would be appropriate.

Psychological therapy
During our assessment, we will discuss what is important to your child and what they would like to work on.
I am trained in a number of evidence based therapies but use an integrative approach to create an individualised treatment plan that is tailored to their goals. I predominantly draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) approaches.

Sessions may include a child and young person alone; parents separately or with the child and parents together, depending on need.

I have experience in adapting therapies online for children and young people so that they are accessible and engaging.

Through our work together:
-
I can help you and your child understand and make sense of their difficulties
-
I can help your child find ways to manage and tolerate uncomfortable feelings
-
I can work with you, your child, and/or liaise with other professionals or agencies involved in their care, depending on your needs.
Timely, accessible, specialist support
to help children thrive and flourish
